A Plain English Guide to Facility & Asset Management Software

In a story originally written by Ashley Halligan, a facilities management analyst at Software Advice, a Web-based advisory firm, she simply outlined the primary functions of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM), and Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) — all of which have some similarities, and sometimes leave consumers scratching their heads.

While technology continues to become more advanced, sometimes core functionalities, and therefore labels also change. Interviewing three industry experts, she took their insight and wrote a Plain English Guide for the common consumer seeking a software solution for their organization. The guide goes through core functions and provides examples of what business challenges these functions address.
