CMMS Top “Must Haves” in 2014


A recent study about the purchasing trends of buyers of Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) was conducted by Software Advice, a web-based advisory firm. The study revealed the top reasons buyers are looking for a CMMS solution. The findings are concurrent with those we uncover during our sales process at Maintenance Connection everyday and we thought you might find them interesting.

Here are a few statistics about CMMS buyers:

  • 48% currently use manual methods, such as paper or spreadsheets
  • 8% are hoping to make a change from the system they currently use because it lacks features they want
  • 6%  are looking to make a change from their current system because it has a poor user interface that makes it difficult or confusing to use

In addition to polling purchasers about their reasons for purchasing a CMMS system, the study also asked potential buyers what feature mattered most when considering options.

Here is a breakdown of features considered to be the #1 “Must Have” in a CMMS system:

  • 25% preventative maintenance
  • 22% asset management
  • 21% work order management
  • 12% inventory management
  • 11% reporting
